In the Spotlight: Barb Philbrick

Barb Philbrick, Lead Technical Writer at Keithley Instruments (Tektronix)


Barb is a senior member of the STC and a long-standing member of the Northeast Ohio Society for Technical Communication (NEOSTC), now Ohio STC.

Her past service garnered her the Distinguished Chapter Service (2000), Volunteer of the Year (2005), and Committee of the Year (Competitions, 2013) Awards. In 2007, she earned the honorary rank of STC Associate Fellow.

On June 23rd, the NEOSTC community elected Barb to serve as Vice President for the years 2020 to 2021. She will assume the Presidency for the years 2021 to 2022.

Barb joined Keithley in May 2012 and serves as the lead technical writer. In her role, she creates documentation and illustrations for a wide array of test and measurement instruments. She also provides leadership to the extended writing team, which includes managing task assignments and ensuring that the appropriate processes and procedures required for a high-volume documentation setting are in place.

Prior to Keithley, Barb was President of Caslon Services Inc. Caslon Services was a writing and editing company focused on instruction manuals, online help, marketing collateral, and web content.

Barb is a graduate of Cleveland State University where she graduated with a degree in English.

Barb and famWhen not writing for Keithley Instruments she has family and hobbies to keep her busy.

Barb, her husband John, two sons, and two cats live in Aurora. Her youngest son, Henry, just graduated from Aurora High School. Her oldest, Gus, is a student at the University of Cincinnati.

In her spare time, she is an avid birder. On any given weekend she can be found enjoying the diverse opportunities northeast Ohio provides to observe and learn about birds.
