Kelly Webb Bronstrup Joins the Academic Relations Team

Welcome Kelly Webb Bronstrup to the NEO STC Academic Relations Team! Her experience in academics makes her an asset to our team. She is an Associate Professor of Technical Writing and Composition at The University of Akron. She has taught Technical Report Writing, English 121 Composition, Effective Oral Communication, and Introduction to Public Speaking since 1996—full time since 2007. In 2010, she was awarded the University’s Service Learning and Student Engagement Award in its inaugural year. She has given more than 25 presentations locally, statewide, and nationally. Kelly has served on many committees both on and off campus, but is most proud of her work on the University’s Veterans Steering Committee to help military students achieve success.

Her focus has been teaching students through experiential learning by partnering her courses with outside organizations such as NASA Glenn Research Center, a local police department, Hyland Software, Rockwell Automation. She has also taught Interpersonal Communication at Tri-C Corporate College. Kelly earned a BA from Kent State University in 1991 and an MA in Education from The University of Akron in 1993.

“I feel strongly that students must always reflect on how they can use their knowledge and skill sets that they have gained in college to help others. I also believe that we as educators have a duty to instill civic responsibility in our students. For example, in my classes we have done numerous service learning projects with NASA, Wags4Warriors, Stewart’s Caring Place, and other non-profit organizations.”

Kelly brings personal experience to the classroom. She worked in sales for an independent high-end jewelry store doing all of their writing for advertising and customer guides. Kelly was a training manager for Sterling Inc. (now Signet) where she reconstructed her department’s training program for one of their largest departments. This work included writing training manuals, workbooks, and training the trainers and other employees up through the Vice President within the Special Orders department.

Kelly plays competitive United States Tennis Association (USTA) tennis. She also enjoys boating with family and exploring the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Kelly is reading “The Prize: Who’s in Charge of America’s Schools” by Dale Russakoff. She enjoys all genres. Kelly joined STC three years ago and is active on NEO STC’s Academic Relations Committee. She shares her Brecksville home with her husband, their children, and their dogs.
