Here is a recap of some of the latest activities for the NEO STC Academic Relations committee. We’ve been busy and had some great experiences!
Academic Relations’ Lisa Mileusnich, Parker Hannifin, and Dave Frey, Rockwell Automation, visited John Carroll University in October to meet with the students in the “Writing in the Professions” class. They gave an overview of NEO STC and the benefits of joining a professional organization. They also talked with the students in small groups about what technical writers do on the job and what hiring managers look for in a new writer.
Academic Relations’ Lynn Nickels, Rockwell Automation, spoke at Case Western Reserve’s Link-State conference about personal branding and the importance of using volunteer, internship, and professional organization opportunities to build one’s resume and network while still in school. NEO STC was featured as one of the professional organizations that brings great value at a student-friendly rate. “
Academic Relations’ Lynn Nickels spoke to two honors engineering classes at Akron University on the 21st on the topic, “Collaborative Writing Across Genres, Cultures and Cross-Functional Teams.” Associate Professor and NEO STC Member Kelly Webb Bronstrup invited Lynn to speak and expressed the importance of today’s engineering students knowing how to write well in a collaborative setting. Lynn also spoke about careers and the benefits that joining NEO STC brings at the student level. Lynn was invited to return and speak again in the spring.
