Now that we’re into December, I’ve started thinking about the end of 2017. Wait. You mean 2016, right? No. When I was younger, I couldn’t wait to grow up. One year could just as well have been two. Looking back, I think high school lasted a decade. Now? I blink and four years have passed. So when I start mapping out professional development goals for the upcoming year – knowing how quickly time passes – I like to picture myself looking back at the year. What goals did I set? And which ones am I most likely (reasonably!) to have accomplished? Regardless of how time passes for you, STC and the NEO chapter, offer a number of opportunities for you to advance your professional development over the next year.
Meet and connect with other Tech Comm pros at one of our networking lunches or socials. They’re held at different places around the region, so one’s likely coming to your area soon. Our next lunch is January 11 at Quaker Steak & Lube in Valley View.
Build your resume by volunteering for one of our committees. Gain practical experience with web development, social media, Tech Comm and higher education, or even membership recruiting and retention.
See what other Tech Comm pros are producing by entering or judging a competition. Entry for the International Summit Awards competition is closed, but there’s still time to apply to serve as a judge (December 31, deadline).
Attend one of our monthly meeting programs. Our next program, covering mobile content delivery, is January 12. Watch the NEO STC website and your inbox for details.
Make this the year you obtain CPTC. Bonus – You can satisfy 8 of the 12 required CPTC continuing education requirements if you’re attending the Summit and you obtain certification prior to it.
So draw up a couple of goals and cross one of them off your list today by joining/renewing your STC + NEO chapter membership.
I hope to see you at some of our events in 2017!
